Human League wins 2010 GAPL World Series!

News

Human League nipped the CenTex Redshirts in an epic seven game World Series.

The first three games took 38 innings. Game 1 was the short one, won by the Redshirts 6-3 in 11 innings on a three-run homer by hero Mike Napoli. The Redshirts tied the game 2-2 in the 9th when Carlos Marmol came into the game with one out, walked two, threw a wild pitch, walked another and then hit Napoli with a pitch to force in the tying run.

League was coasting in Game 2 when their late manager inexplicably pinch-hit for Tim Hudson while he was throwing a shutout. The Redshirts got four in the 8th, tying the game with homers by Jose Bautista and Jay Bruce. The game stayed tied until the 14th inning, when Bautista homered again for a Redshirts win.

Game three only went 13 innings, with the League winning 5-4.

The Redshirts went up 3-1 in the series with a 9-2 win in Game 4.

In Game 5, the Redshirts fought back from 5-0 and 7-5 deficits before League won 8-7 on 9th inning hits from Troy Tulowitzki and Ryan Zimmerman.

Back in Comerica Park, Game 6 was a back-and-forth slugfest won by League 9-8 on a Nelson Cruz walk-off homer.

Jeremy Hermida (League's first GAPL rookie draft pick -- #2 overall) threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Game 7. The band Human League reunited for the National Anthem. The Redshirts sent Tim Lincecum to the mound against League's Roy Oswalt. Alas, Lincecum didn't have his best stuff, and the League jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third and held on for the win. Nelson Cruz had two hits and a walk in Game 7 to win World Series MVP. Cruz hit 344/400/875 in the World Series with 5 HRs and 9 RBI, after mashing 542/560/875 in the LCS.
